Overview

Bring authentic human spaceflight into your classroom

This hands-on professional development program provides K–12 educators with an authentic introduction to human space exploration. Participants will work with analog spacesuits, perform astronaut-like tasks, and explore the challenges of operating in extraterrestrial environments, helping them bring real-world STEM applications into their classrooms.

Program Components

What you'll do

Educator donning an analog spacesuit1

Spacesuit Operations (DON/DOFF)

Learn and practice proper suit donning and doffing procedures while gaining insight into suit design, safety protocols, and operational constraints.

Educators performing EVA mobility exercises2

Mobility & Human Performance

Complete mobility exercises in spacesuits, simulating extravehicular activities (EVAs). These activities highlight physical limitations and contribute observational data to ongoing research on human performance in constrained environments.

Geological sampling tools used in simulated mission conditions3

Geological Tool Testing

Use and evaluate geological sampling tools under simulated mission conditions, providing feedback on tool effectiveness and usability in spacesuit operations.

Impact

Real-world STEM, taught from experience

This immersive experience strengthens educators' understanding of space science, engineering, and human factors, equipping them with engaging, real-world connections to enhance STEM instruction.
